Choosing the right illustrated-book edition

A translated title can look like a different book, while two books with the same title can be different editions. Compare the edition details before ordering from any retailer.

Start with the ISBN and language

Check the ISBN in the publisher record and on the seller listing. Confirm the language of the text, not only the language of the shop. If the ISBN or publisher details are missing, ask the seller for a photograph of the copyright page before deciding.

Compare format and contents

Hardback, paperback, collected volumes and individual volumes are not interchangeable. Check the binding, dimensions, page count and volume number. A translated title alone does not establish that two listings contain the same material.

Check condition and availability

For a used copy, ask about missing pages, annotations, damage and the dust jacket where relevant. Confirm the full price including delivery, the delivery destination and the return conditions on the retailer website. Catalog inclusion does not mean that a book is in stock.
